The Accreditation of Warith Institute as a Center for Obtaining the International Certification Board
The International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) has announced the accreditation of Warith International Cancer Institute (WICI), affiliated with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, as an officially recognized training center for the international certification board. This makes it the first in Iraq and the most prominent in the Middle East. This achievement is not only a milestone for medical institutions but also a source of pride for all of Iraq! The accreditation followed a visit by an official delegation from the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) to inspect the Warith Institute’s infrastructure and capabilities, leading to its designation as a training center for the International Medical Physics Certification Board.
Dr. Ibrahim Duhaini, a board member of the International Organization for Medical Physics, mentioned that the survey conducted by the organization at Warith International Institute is part of the IOMP accreditation program. He explained that the survey included an assessment of the radiology department and the hospital's residency accredited programs. Dr. Ibrahim also added that with the accreditation of two-year medical physics residents rotating through all hospital departments, this center will become one of the leading accredited centers in the Middle East.
Medical physicist Chris Trauernicht, a board member of the International Organization for Medical Physics, praised Warith Institute during his visit for the residency program accreditation. He commended the significant investment in the oncology infrastructure and human resources at Warith Institute, noting that there is also substantial investment in the medical staff, which is truly remarkable.
The accreditation of the medical physics residency program at Warith Institute aims to enable Iraqi physicists to obtain certification in this specialty without the need to travel abroad. The residency program is a crucial stage in post-graduate medical education and training. During this period, recent medical graduates, known as residents, gain intensive practical experience in their specialties through participation in clinical practice.
All these efforts are part of Warith Institute's commitment to elevating healthcare standards in Iraq to global levels.
